The visit to Cuba took place during December and January 2008. The point of arrival was Havana with a stay for 2 nights followed by a transfer towards the western end of the island to Viñales. The National Park of Viñales contains the unusual landscape of the Mogotes comprising generally isolated, steep-sided residual hills surrounded by nearly flat alluvial plains. The hills are composed of either limestone, marble or dolomite. The next destination was Maria la Gorda on the coast in the National Park of the Peninsula of Gunanahacabibes at the extreme western tip of Cuba. Returning through Havana took us to the southern coast of the island at Playa Girón close to the infamous Bay of Pigs. Further east along the coast we had stays in the towns of Cienfuegos and Trinidad before returning to Havana for the flight back home.
