This three week trip took place in January/February 2016, starting in Colombo with an immediate transfer to the rain forest area in Kitulgala. Two nights in Kitulgala were followed by four days in Singharaja, where some wet weather was experienced. The next destination was Udawalawe National Park where a single night only was spent before moving on to the Tissa Wetlands and Yala National Park.

From the hot and humid environment of the lowland areas the next move was to the highlands in Nuwara Eliya, where the change of climate was quite a shock with warm sunny days but distinctly cool and chilly nights. Nuwara Eliya also provided a base to visit Horton Plain National Park, an area of great scenic impact, but with only low populations of birds and animals.

From the cool climate of the highlands we returned to the high temperatures in Kandy and were able to visit the impressive Botanic Garden at Peradeniya. Our next transfer took us to Sigiriya and Minneriya National Park before our final destination of Wilpattu National Park at Nochchiyagama prior to our return to Colombo for the return to Europe.
