INTRODUCTION

The visit to Senegal formed part of a longer trip to The Gambia and Senegal during February 2018. The journey to Senegal started with a ferry crossing of the Gambia River from Banjul and crossing the border at Karang. From there we drove north for an overnight stay in Kaolack before making the long drive north through St Louis to Djoudj National Park on the border with Mauritania. The weather conditions here were disappointing with large amounts of atmospheric dust making photography difficult. We had planned to visit Richard Toll on the Senegal River but adverse weather conditions forced a cancellation and we returned directly to The Gambia crossing the Gambia River at Farafenni.
